My Output for this Course

I kept track of my notes in a mediawiki environment. If someone is interested, I can zip it and e-mail it…

Review / Course Impressions

This course is very strange. It consists of two parts (“Mathematical Logic” and “Number Theory”), and they are almost completely unrelated. This is also the first problem of this course: You constantly switch between the different parts, so whatever you learn in one unit will not be used in the next (as you switch to the other part), but only in the one after it.

The next problem of this course is that it’s presentation, both visual and medial, is not up to 2007 standards. The text books look boring, and there is nothing to accompany it – no videos, no audios, no webpage, just the text books.

But the biggest problem for me was the Number theory part – this part is so abstract and theoretical, that I had no idea what it could be useful for – and it involves some heavy mathematics that was too high for me. You could argue that it’s a level 3 course – but MT365, the other level 3 maths course I did, was much easier. This of course might have to do with the presentation – MT365 included audio, video, and appealing text books…

The Mathematical Logic part is also very abstract and theoretical – but as it relates more to IT and programming, I had an affection for it and found it not so difficult as the other part.

Still, in summary, I regretted doing this course a lot during the year – and I would never recommend it again. Thank good this was the last math-course I had to do! Let’s just hope I can cope with the exam…

Final Words

I completed this course with a “Grade3 pass” (precisely as predicted); overall examinable score (OES) was 61, overall continuous assessment score (OCAS) was 80.
