Activision tech support

A while ago, I bought the “Lego Indiana Jones” PC-Game. While the game itself is neat and fun, I have some troubles launching it (the screen remains black sometimes – and I have to launch the task-manager and kill the Lego Indy task). The problem arises with no pattern – sometimes I have to try and start the game for like 5 times, sometimes it works at the first attempt.

I tried to contact the support hotline from Activision. At first, they tried it with some standard replies: Update your graphic driver, update your chipset driver… with some funny stuff in-between (“update your monitor driver”). Overall, they weren’t helpful nor considerably motivated or friendly.

I rang several times, and after a while, I was told if it doesn’t work out with all the tipps (deactivate virus-scanner etc), I shall drop an e-mail.

And so I did (note: you have to register as Activision VIP to do so – at no cost, but at reveilance of some personal data…). The answers that came back included the SAME tips as I got via phone.

When I finally explained that I did all this – zero. Black hole. No answers any more. This was over a month ago; I bugged them several times, following up again and again – still nothing.

Hey friends – I paid 70 Swiss Francs for the game! And I expect it to work, I have a fairly standard PC!

So – Activision really sucks…. I will think twice before buying the next game published by them…

MMORPGs

There are a few new massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs) in the pipeline – namely “Champions online” that has a comic book / super-hero setting, and of course Lego Universe, which I still think of being one of the greatest ideas eer!

Some fun stuff

During my ongoing explorations of what is out there, I found some new fun stuff – which of course I must fix here, merely as a note to self…

First, the blog of the Evil Mad Scientist – really great, lots of fun with Lego, electronics and just the usual geek stuff…

Second, the Brick Testament: Reverend Brendan Powell Smith recreated the Bible (or parts of it – I guess he is still working on it) out of Lego. This is really fun!

Finally, I simply admire the look and feel of this website

Lego Millenium Falcon

Dave has posted some images and some impressions on the big Lego Millenium Falcon set over at geekdads. But his greatest achievement is the 8min video that shows the assembly of this huge model (if only he had picked some other music…)

EDIT: This one is even better (sorry, Dave) – also, the music fits… :)

Another awesome lego creation

It’s amazing what you can discover just like that – by accident.

This one is called “Blacktron Intelligence Agency” – according to the note you can see at one point in the video, it took 4.5 years (!!) to build…..
