As TrekMovie.com and 8of5 reported, the Star Trek books for 2010 will focus on the original series (TOS) and the relaunch universe created in the Movie “Star Trek”.

However, the 2380ies also come back to life – some books will deal with the aftermaths of the disappearance of the Borg and the new Typhon pact, established in “A Singular Destiny”.

What I miss, though, is some more DS9 post-series stuff – the “season 8″ was so great, but somehow it seems to loose the pace, and there are no new books continuing the storyline, as everything focuses now the Aventine and the 2380ies (while the post-series books were set in the late 2370ies).

…and the question WHEN they happened…

Sounds weird? Well – after I edited more year pages on Memory Beta, the Star Trek Wiki, specifically the page on 2377, I accidentially started a discussion about WHEN some events happened / will happen….

Look on the talk page on 2377 – it’s all about whether Starship Voyager actually returned to the Alpha Quadrant in 2377 or in 2378.

If you are totally lost now and think I am a complete nerd – never mind… there ARE guys out there to whom these things matter (and actually – I am one of them

When reading Star Trek novels, I find it very useful to place them into a broader context – timeline-wise. However, the timeline over at Memory Alpha, the star trek wiki, considers only “canon” work, episodes, films, but no novels. And as the timeline at Memory Beta, the Star Trek wiki for licensed work, is kind of crowded and chaotic, I proposed a new template there.

I thus started to clean up some years, and intend to continue this project during the next… well, couple of months, I guess… you can watch my progress on my user page.

Oh, and btw – I posted some summaries of novels I read at Memory Alpha – us my user page there for an overview.

I got a bunch of Star Trek books from Amazon this week – continuing the DS9 relaunch series. Head to memory-alpha for my latest story capsules…

Well, some of you might wonder why I don’t post any other entries here at the moment. The reason is simple: I finally started to read season 8 of “Star Trek – Deep Space 9″.
Let me tell you shortly what this is all about: Star Trek – Deep Space 9 was a tv-show, set in the Star Trek universe. The show run in the nineties and was (and still is) one of my favourite tv-shows. It lasted seven seasons; but in 2000/2001, some guys had the idea to continue the saga. The result is the “inofficial” season 8, published by pocket books. “Inofficial”, because novels are not considered “Star Trek canon” – but they are somehow more canon than, for example, fan-projects or so…
The saga starts off with “Avatar“, a two parted “season” premiere, introducing some new characters and setting the scene. Without DS9 knowledge however, you are completely lost (although there is a very good introduction, summarising main events of DS9, in “Avatar – Book One”). So, I won’t go into details here. Let me just say that the scene and the characters are described surprisingly good, and you feel almost like watching tv when reading the books.
One of my current projects is to read these books and to enhance related wiki-entries in Memory Alpha – the entry for “Avatar – Book One” has already been updated…
However, as these won’t be the only books I read, I will of course continue to blog here.
